THE 2025 MANITOBA INDIGENOUS SUMMER GAMES HAVE BEEN POSTPONED TO SUMMER 2026
Winnipeg, Manitoba (Treaty 1 Territory)— The Manitoba Aboriginal Sports & Recreation Council (MASRC) along with Norway House Cree Nation (NHCN) and Sagkeeng Anicinabe Government (SAG) is announcing the postponement of the 2025 Manitoba Indigenous Summer Games (MISG) to the summer of 2026. This decision comes in response to the ongoing wildfire emergency affecting many participants and their communities across Manitoba and Northwest Ontario.
Following the province-wide State of Emergency declared by the Government of Manitoba on May 28, 2025, and with continued concerns about wildfire unpredictability and impact, the MASRC Board of Directors, in consultation with NHCN and SAG, passed a formal motion on June 9 to postpone the Games.
The health, safety, and well-being of athletes, families, volunteers, and host communities remain our top priority. The MASRC remains firmly committed to delivering the Games in 2026 in partnership with NHCN and SAG.
At this time, the MASRC would like to acknowledge the time, energy, and dedication that communities, families, and athletes have invested in preparing for this event. This decision was not made lightly, and we understand the impact it may have, particularly for those youth who had made plans to compete this summer. Our goal has always been to provide opportunities to play and celebrate Indigenous youth through sport, and the recommencement of these Games in the Summer of 2026, aligns with this long-term vision.
MASRC, along with the host Nations, remains committed to ensuring the 2026 Games reflect the spirit, pride, and resilience of Indigenous youth and the communities that support them.
We will continue to share information and updates through our website and social media pages as planning progresses.

Can I participate in more than one sport at a time during each tournament?
Unfortunately, no—you can only participate in one sport per tournament at the Manitoba Indigenous Summer Games. This is to prevent scheduling conflicts, as each sport has its own set of games, practices, and commitments that often overlap. Limiting participation to one sport ensures the tournament runs smoothly and that athletes can fully commit to their team and schedule.
